This 1960's semi A-frame cottage nestles in a redwood grove above the town of Mill Valley.  Phased additions were designed to carefully expand the house without removing trees or eliminating scarce level yard area.  The house's daring use of skylights brings in light as a dynamic element and create views into the crown of the redwood trees above.  The sweeping curve of the kitchen wall and broad expanses of multiple windows lead one's eye out into the landscape.  The kitchen is the dramatic focus of the open layout, establishing an informal center as appropriate to daily life as to casual entertaining.
